Handmaid’s Tale is the question The story nightmare for any woman. Gilead (formerly the US) – the new country was formed in the film is the place possesses many characteristics “no”, including no president, no parliament, no democracy, no human rights, and especially … unfair. Gilead society is patriarchal society to the extreme, built in the name of God and men hold sway. The women have fertility will be forced to become a maid – called beauty of the concept of “machine to know it.” They will have to give birth to men of power, whether they like it or not. Social stratification and inequality are pushed to the climax, one can hardly imagine. And the paradox is that injustice is done in the name of God, in the name of religion.
In the film, viewers will follow the character maid Offred (appellation is named after their employer, they are not allowed to use his real name) and cruise struggle to find freedom, find baby younger daughter was taken. Opens with a chase, the film swept viewers into the atmosphere oppressive, secret urgency and pain that discomfort. The characters are built multidimensional, multi-layer, causing the viewer’s hard to love or hate a really specific character. All circumstances happen for a reason, and when we start to feel somebody in the film so kind and loving, even files later, viewers were witnessing the brutal and cold of that character.
I especially liked the way color is used in the film, partly reflecting the personality of the character. The maid wore red, the color of life, death, health, vitality, symbolizing fertility and sacrifice. But the color red is also the desire for freedom, the hidden power never stops, no matter how suppressed the matter. Wives wear blue, the color of peace, of truth, hope, safety and protection, but also the color of the apathy, sadness and tears. The men in the film wear black, the color of power, symbolizing their dominance, but also the color of the villain, of darkness and evil …
Film mainly go towards narrative stream Offred memories, thoughts, her view of the new world, as well as beautiful memories not they fade. Her character is inspired, never give up, because she was still hope, hope to live and see his daughter.
The close-hand corner, the landscape is minimized brings visual effects and feeling extremely fit the film. During one episode, when the 2-3 set, no music, no sound clarity or overwhelmed yet sounded, silence and trouble breathing heavily as the current life of Offred. No freedom, no love, no human rights, could only have to be good, bowed, patience otherwise suffer, miserable as was the hook eye, hands, beaten … because simple, the ruler just the genitals of the maid to lay, the other parts are not necessary. But the time zone Offred up, people are enjoying the cheerful melody short. Towards the end of the film, the air began to deluge, signaling an uprising, a fierce fight, a thrilling new movie and suspense than later.
The Handmaid’s Tale is not simply a story of a servant girl, but also a film using the image opposite to satire, criticism and reflect the brutality of man, of blind faith in religion, racism, sexism and other issues. In a way, naked Gilead reflect the world in which we now live. If not simply looking for a film to entertain, but also to reflect and contemplate, Handmaid’s Tale is a film definitely not to be missed.
