The 3 Mistakes Of My Life – Three mistakes or valuable lessons for life?
Chetan Bhagat is one of India’s best writers. His compositions are a blend of love – religion – philosophy. “The 3 Mistakes Of My Life” is the second bestseller of Chetan Bhagat in many countries around the world.
The book is about the lives of three guys: Govind, Omi and Ish. 3 boys, they do not want to suffer from the arrangement of family in work and career, decided to do their own business. The three guys start a cricket sports shop. The business ran well, Govind moved the small shop to the Navrangpura center. Unfortunately, an earthquake struck the store with their dreams and ambitions.
After the earthquake, Govind taught Vidya mathematics – Ish’s younger sister. Vidya is a beautiful and intelligent girl. Gradually developed feelings for each other, they defied the barriers between the two. Govind defies the principle of not loving his sister. They went over the limit. When he realized he was a father, Govind hated himself for being unable to abstain.
The three boys were dragged into the war between two different religions: Hindu – under the uncle’s leadership of Omi and the Muslim side. Just because of Govind’s hesitation, Omi and Omi’s uncle must die. This is Govind’s third mistake. The friendship between Govind and Ish ends here. Vidya leaves after Ish knows she has children with Govind and Govind commits suicide.
“India is not a place for dreams, especially, when you have once failed. Finally, I find the inherent feeling in Hindu philosophy to be satisfied with what we have, rather than to earn more. That philosophy, meant by the ancient sages, is not a good thing, but is a spell that helps to survive in a country where desires are often crushed … ”. The main character in the story was bitterly thinking like that with all his painful youth experiences.
“A ‘very good friend’ is a dangerous category with Indian girls. From here you can either make fast progress or if you play it wrong, you can go down to the lowest category invented by the Indian women ever – rakhi brother. Rakhi brother really means ‘you can talk to me, but don’t even freaking think about anything else you bore’.”
